LeckerBierchen is now on the App Store in the EU
It is done: the Digital Services Act approval has gone through, and LeckerBierchen is finally available on the App Store in Germany and the EU.
LeckerBierchen on the App Store
In my last post I explained why technical approval is not the same as release in Germany. Apple had already approved the app technically, but DSA compliance was still missing for distribution in the EU. That step is now complete. “Technically ready” has finally become “available”.
What LeckerBierchen does
As a reminder: LeckerBierchen is a simple iPhone and iPad app for bar staff and waiters. It is meant to help during service without getting in the way.
- Create tables and guests
- Record orders and keep open amounts in view, updated live
- Use a quick checkout for walk-in customers
- Settle open tabs clearly
- Maintain the drinks menu, including a photo scan that runs locally on the device
The app runs locally on the device. There is no account, no cloud, and no external AI service for menu recognition. Privacy, stability, and fast operation were the focus from day one.
What I take away from the journey
Getting into the App Store took much longer than I expected at the start. Code and features were only part of it. There was also App Store Connect, metadata, privacy details, a support page, an imprint, the Apple review, and finally the Digital Services Act.
That was the real lesson for me: a release is not only a technical event, it is also a matter of product, compliance, and operations. And it is worth walking that path completely yourself at least once.
The first feature requests are in
The best part of the release: other people are now using the app, and the first feature requests have already arrived. That is exactly why you do this. Feedback from real use shows what is actually missing in day-to-day service much faster than any test at a desk.
These requests are on the list right now:
- Cancel button: Quickly and cleanly reverse items that were booked by mistake.
- Sharing price lists: Share the drinks menu across several devices so the whole team works with the same prices.
- Central lists: Define menus and prices centrally instead of maintaining them on each device.
- Bill overview: An overview of all booked items, locally at first and maybe centrally later.
- Cashless payment: The big one. This is not only about technology, but also about providers, fees, and legal questions.
Sharing and centrally defining lists is especially interesting, because the app has deliberately run fully local so far. I need to think carefully about how to make that work without giving up the privacy-first approach.
I am now planning these requests into the next versions and will build them step by step. The goal stays the same: LeckerBierchen should become even more practical in service without losing the simplicity that defines it. Not every idea will be built right away, but every one will be looked at.
If you use the app and have an idea, or something does not work as expected, I would love to hear from you. You will find all contact options on the support page.
What comes next
Next up are planning the feature requests and shipping the first updates. I will keep writing about the progress here on the blog. Cheers to the release!
